Have you been wanting to add body butter to your line of products, but don't have the time to formulate your own recipe? Save your time and your money and utilize Stephenson's Body Butter Base. This customizable base is loaded with hydrating ingredients like Sunflower Oil and Shea Butter. Add up to 2% additives, fragrances and essential oils to this base to make it your very own. Find out how I made two different versions of Body Butter using this base.
Why I love this base:
I chose to use this base to make some 'Winter Weather' body butters because this base in particular is thick and extremely moisturizing. I know that when the cold, dry weather hits, my body needs some extra help staying hydrated. The Shea Butter and Sunflower oil that are in the pre formulated base add extra moisturizing properties, plus you can add even more, which is exactly what I did! For my two different versions of the body butter I added ingredients such as Mango butter, Coconut oil and Pumpkin seed oil. The great thing about this base is you can easily interchange any ingredient you like.
What ingredients do you have on hand?
If you don't have any of the listed ingredients above but want to try out this recipe, search for oils and butters you may have on hand such as: Avocado Oil, Rosehip Oil, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Cocoa Butter or Kokum butter. The list goes on! Add ingredients that you think attribute to a great body butter, do some research on the benefits of the oils you will add, and help use this as a selling feature on why your body butter is the best!
What I did:
I decided to make 2 different batches of body butter.
For the first one, I added Mango Butter (1%) and Coconut Oil (1%), as well as fragrance oil (2%). For the scent I chose to to mix two fragrances. I used Caribbean Coconut and Christmas Cookies. The combination of the two made for a perfectly warm scent that translates well to a 'holiday scent' without being too traditional. I decided to keep my base colour free. I followed the instructions listed below, and this body butter tuned out perfectly. The nourishing properties from the mango butter and coconut oil are evident in the thick base, and it is easily absorbed into the skin.
For the second version, I decided to add Pumpkin Seed Oil (2%). Pumpkin Seed Oil has amazing moisturizing properties, as well as improves skin firmness and improves skin tone. For the scent of this body butter I went sweeter than the last one and used our Salted Caramel Fragrance Oil (2%) and let me tell you, it smells divine. This base I also left colour free, just due to personal preference.
Both versions of the body butter base were a home-run. The body butter is easily absorbed into my skin, the scent it long lasting, and the whole process was simple. With a little bit of love and a little bit of time I created a product that I would be satisfied selling to customers.
Make it simple:
Not interested in adding anything else to this already luxurious base? No worries. You do not need to add any secondary ingredients to your base. Just follow the instructions below and add your chosen fragrance oil and colour if desired. Package up however you like and sell this hydrating body butter to your customers and hear the rave reviews.
How to make your own:
-
Weigh how much body butter you will need to fill your desired vessels.
-
Put your body butter into a microwave safe container.
-
Microwave body butter base in 1 minute intervals, stirring thoroughly in between.
-
*NOTE: If you are making a large batch of body butter, you can use a double boiler method to heat the base.
-
Heat base to 140 Degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Measure any additional ingredients you are going to add to your base. You can add 1-2% oils and up to 2% fragrance oil.
-
Melt down additional butters if solid.
-
Add melted butters and any additional oils to your base.
-
Add fragrance oil to your body butter.
-
Add krazy liquid dye to your body butter if desired. A little goes a long way. Use a very small amount. You don't want to stain skin, only tint your body butter for esthetic purposes.
-
Stir, stir, stir! Give your body butter a good stir, I would recommend at least 5 minutes of stirring the oils into your body butter to fully incorporate it. You may find your base looking chunky while you are stirring. As the base becomes fully incorporated and cools, your body butter should become smooth.
-
Allow body butter base to cool and put into jars. Pouring the base with a beaked measuring cup, or using a piping bag is the best way to get product into your vessel.
Curious as to how this body butter feels?
This body butter is easily absorbed into skin, and leaves your skin feeling completely hydrated for hours. There is no greasy feel, or oily feel to the base.
Will it discolour?
If you are adding fragrance with vanillin in it, the base may slightly discolour. The base also may discolour if left in direct sunlight. From my own personal experience, there has been no discolouration of the base from either batch I made.
Best way to store your finished product?
Store your base in glass containers, or plastic. We do not recommend the use of metal tins, as this base is made with water.
